Rendezvous Peak Trail

Difficulty Level: Moderate

Distance: 3 miles

Peak Elevation: 4,101 feet (1,500 ft. gain)

This steadily upward trail leads to an incredible view of Arctic Valley, and on a clear day you can see Mount Denali! On your way up to Rendezvous Peak, you will hike alongside a picturesque ski lift that operates in the winter. While this route climbs steadily upward, it is fairly simple, and energetic hikers of all skill levels are welcome.

Flattop Mountain

Difficulty Level: Moderate to Difficult

Distance: 3 miles

Peak Elevation: 3,500 feet (1,300 ft. gain)

From 3,500 feet above, this extremely popular hike offers one of the best views of Anchorage. The well maintained trail varies from moderate to difficult, as the terrain is not consistent. The variation in landscape will allow you to walk the upward trail, hike rugged steps built into the mountainside, and climb up the rocky summit.  While you can expect the trail to be lively with hikers, this rewarding climb is well worth pursuing!

Mount Baldy

Difficulty Level: Moderate

Distance: 2 miles

Elevation: 3,300 feet (500 ft. gain)

Mount Baldy is an excellent choice for those interested in taking on a short, stimulating hike. The trail begins on a gravel road near the top of Skyline Drive, until you reach the mud trail that directs you to above the tree line. Once you reach the summit you will be rewarded with a view of Eagle River, Anchorage, and Palmer in the distance. Your guide will lead you up the face of the mountain, and back down its parallel valley. Keep an eye out for blueberries and mossberries!

Byron Glacier Trail

Difficulty Level: Easy

Distance: 2 miles

Peak Elevation: 945 feet (100 ft. gain)

The Byron Glacier Trail leads to one of the most accessible glaciers in the Anchorage area. The trail is fairly flat, and a great adventure for the family to take on! Enjoy a pleasant afternoon walking beside the Byron Creek and experience the remarkable opportunity of glacier viewing!  Make sure to bring your rain jacket, as rain showers are common to this valley.

Thunderbird Falls

Difficulty Level: Easy

Distance: 1 mile

Peak Elevation:  462 feet (100 ft. gain)

Your excursion to Thunderbird Falls will consist of an undulating trail along the Eklutna River, until you reach the Thunderbird Falls itself.  Just thirty minutes out of downtown Anchorage, this trail will lead you to a boardwalk and fantastic view of the 200 ft. waterfall.  This peaceful environment is a great choice for couples and families!
